Systems Integration & Test (I&T) Engineer

Qwaltec is seeking mid-level systems I&T engineers to support a satellite-based telephony system. The position works with the engineering teams and subject matter experts to assist in systems integration, script and execute test procedures using a combination of proprietary and commercial languages to facilitate testing and validating new systems and services.  Candidates must be familiar with: scripting and test automation; new subsystem hardware/software integration and deployments; testing of hardware and software telephony systems; Wireshark or similar protocol analyzer; working with multiple operating systems with an emphasis on Linux platforms; isolating call processing issues within and across subsystems; reporting and validating defects, documenting results; and driving issues to closure.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Write scripts to automatically test and validate the product, create reports, collect metrics and artifacts
  • Integrate and maintain hardware and software systems
  • Recreate reported software bugs using test infrastructure
  • Reduce test cycle time by way of analyzing a test and applying new processes, procedures or automation to increase test efficiency
  • Identify and mitigate risks
  • Recreate and isolate reported software bugs using test infrastructure
  • Maintain and enforce configuration management of the test infrastructure software and test scripts
  • Maximize system uptime for best-possible user experience to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Respectfully work cross functionally to instill a strong culture of product quality within the organization
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to script test procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge in test automation
  • Demonstrated knowledge in networking and telecommunications protocols (TCP/IP, GSM, SS7, SIP)
  • Demonstrated knowledge with Linux and/or Unix operating systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge with laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, Wireshark, state machines)
  • Demonstrated systems integration experience
  • Knowledgeable in Python, PERL, TCL, LABVIEW or similar programming languages desired
  • Knowledgeable about high-availability software and hardware systems desired
  • Knowledgeable about machine virtualization, specifically VMware Desktop and ESXi desired
  • Knowledgeable about databases such as oracle, mysql, sqlserver desired
  • Knowledgeable about IP networks, routers and switches desired
  • Interest in providing high quality, cost effective system integration, test and support services
  • Drive toward continuous innovation, adding-value, reducing cycle time and cost
  • Developing professionally, learning and sharing knowledge
  • BS degree in engineering or related technical field
  • Demonstrated relevant technical abilities
  • Strong written communication skills – will write technical memos, documentation, and scripts
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is required
  • Results driven with strong sense of ownership
  • Ability to provide critical thinking to a wide array of problems and develop solutions
  • Ability to work well both independently and in team structures
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • U.S citizenship required

 

Candidate should have a technical degree from an accredited college and an extensive background in working telecommunications systems, preferably a satellite-based system. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 10-15 years related experience, and must display exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
